According to the QS World University Rankings (QS WUR) 2025 results, ITU rose 78 places and ranked 326th this year, achieving its best ranking to date. ITU, which ranks 1st in Türkiye in the “International Research Network” and “Sustainability” indicators, was also awarded the QS “Most Improved-Europe” Award for its outstanding achievements in the last 5 years.
Istanbul Technical University (ITU) ranked 326th among 1503 universities that were eligible to be ranked by QS out of 5663 universities evaluated worldwide in the 2025 QS World University Rankings (QS WUR) results. ITU continued its great success of ranking 404th last year, with a big leap of 78 places this year.
ITU also ranked 112th among the 1503 universities listed in the “employer reputation” indicator, once again demonstrating the strong bond of its graduates and members with the industry. This achievement, which refers to ITU’s global recognition, was also in line with the theme of our university, which declared 2024 as the “Year of Global Impact”.
Our university ranked 1st among the 25 universities from Türkiye entering the world rankings in the “International Research Network” and “Sustainability” indicators, thus displaying its high capacity and quality in other key components of higher education evaluated by QS.
Commenting on the 2025 QS World University Rankings results, our Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu emphasized that ITU has achieved a remarkable success, especially in the last four years, by moving from the 800s to the top 350. He also stated that despite the methodology changes and the increase in the number of universities evaluated, ITU will be in the “top 100” in the overall world rankings and in the “top 10” in the field of engineering and technology within two years.
The QS EduData Summit, where the 2025 QS World University Rankings results were announced, was held in Washington DC on June 4-5, 2024. At this summit, ITU was presented the “Most Improved-Europe” Award, which is given to the fastest rising universities in Europe in the last five years, for its outstanding success in QS rankings in the last five years.
ITU also achieved successful results in various rankings recently announced by QS. Our university rose to the 95th place in the “Engineering and Technology” field in 2024 QS World University Rankings by Subject, while it maintained its leading position in our country. ITU also achieved a great success by ranking 1st in Türkiye in 12 fields while it entered the top 100 in the world in three fields and the top 200 in 10 fields in the list in which around 5,000 universities were evaluated.
ITU ranked 138th among 690 higher education institutions in Europe in the 2024 European University Rankings, which was announced by QS for the first time in 2023. ITU also ranked 2nd among 73 universities subjected to evaluation in Türkiye.
According to QS 2024 Sustainability overall rankings, ITU ranked 221st among 1403 higher education institutions in the world. While it ranked 148th in the world in the “Environmental Impact” category, it maintained its position as the leading university in Türkiye.
The QS World University Rankings (QS WUR) are published by the academic ranking agency Quacquarelli Symonds. QS results are among the rankings that are followed with interest by groups such as high school students who will choose a university, graduate students, researchers, academics and even investors.
