A Cooperation agreement was signed between ITU-TRNC Education Research Campuses and the Cyprus Turkish Farmers Association on December 18, 2019 to build Farming Technologies Center. The agreement was signed by ITU-TRNC Education Research Campuses Rector Prof. Dr. Ercan KAHYA and the head of the Cyprus Turkish Farmers Association, Hüseyin Çavuş KELLE.
ITU-TRNC Rector Prof. Dr. Ercan KAHYA said that the cooperation agreement would be beneficial both for TRNC and Republic of Turkey, and underlined the importance of farming by pointing out the fact that farming has existed since the beginning of the time and will continue to exist. KAHYA explained the signing of this agreement to be an important step taken to add more value to TRNC farmlands especially when there is a growing need to secure food as a result of climate change.
The head of the Cyprus Turkish Farmers Association, Hüseyin Çavuş KELLE explained that farming is changing in line with the changing world and economy; as a result of which, sustainable and organic farming is gaining more importance day by day.
KELLE emphasized that farming is closely connected to human health as much as it is to food safety. He also added that a lot of research has been carried out since 2014 in that field. KELLE also said, “This ARGE Center will be the first in our country. The objective of the Center is to shape the country’s agriculture, to provide its sustainability, to share information, to conduct soil analyses in labs, and to take precautions for climate change.”
After these speeches, the cooperation agreement was signed.
