With its 246 years of experience, Istanbul Technical University was proud to graduate 2,361 students from the school. The 2018-2019 Academic Year Graduation Ceremony was crowned with academicians who have dedicated their life to science and education and also with students who received rewards. 12 ITU-TRNC students also graduated at the ceremony, which was held at the Ayazağa Campus.

 

The Undergraduate Graduation Ceremony took place on Monday July 1, 2019 at the ITU Stadium with decorations and glamor. It started with a minute of silence followed by the National Anthem. The opening of the ceremony welcomed academicians who went to the III. National Antarctic Science Expedition, other scientists and ITU Basketball team, and they were all applauded when they got on the stage. These valuable people received their certificates from ITU Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet KARACA. ITU-TRNC Education-Research Campuses Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Serdar KUM and Assistant to Rector Assist. Prof. Cemil YURTÖREN also attended the ceremony.

 

ITU Rector started his speech by congratulating the students and added that ITU has had a great and solid experience from history: “Mühendishane-i Bahr-i Hümâyun (1773), Mühendishane-i Berr-i Hümâyun (1795), Hendese-i Mülkiye (1883) and Istanbul Technical University (1944)”. He continued “As it can be seen, ITU had a long-lasting adventurous history. Therefore, ITU not only assisted the modernization process of the Ottoman Empire but also laid the foundations for the Republic of Turkey. You are the graduates of this university. I congratulate each and every one of you. Godspeed and all the best to you all”.

 

This year, Industrial Engineering student Ida GJERGJI obtained the highest CGPA with 4.0 and gave a speech on behalf of all the students in ITU. GJERGJI stated that ITU has given him invaluable support and education and it was a great success for him to receive 4.0 out of 4.

 

After all the speeches, ITU’s tradition of Horn-Trumpet Team from the Maritime Faculty displayed a great parade to all of its audience. When students gave the “graduate’s oath”, convocation ceremony started and everybody had a lot of fun. Towards the end of the ceremony, a lot of exhibitions and musical performances took place.

 

Graduation Ceremony held in the Tuzla Campus

 

The Graduation Ceremony for Istanbul Technical University’s Faculty of Maritime was held on Tuesday 2nd July 2019 at the Tuzla Campus. 10 ITU North Cyprus students had the joy of successfully completing the 2018-2019 Academic year and receiving their diplomas.

 

ITU-TRNC Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Serdar KUM and Assistant to Rector Dr. Faculty Member Cemil YURTÖREN presented the students with their diplomas at the event which was attended by ITU Faculty of Maritime students, their family and top level guests.

 

ITU Faculty of Maritime Dean Prof. Dr. Oğuz Salim SÖĞÜT gave the opening speech of the ceremony and after stating that 90 students had graduated, he went on to continue his speech as follows: “Our faculty which has the mission to educate innovative and level-headed seamen in line with Atatürk’s principles and reforms, is continuing to lead in this task. Our faculty whose roots are from 1984, is a school where ideas are openly expressed, there is mutual respect, teamwork is forefront, marine culture’s customs and traditions are taught and in the end this faculty leads to the Turkish flag sawing all around the world.”

 

Stating that the young seamen graduated from the university that has created the base of engineering in education, SÖĞÜT continued; “We are sending you off into a critical field. You have all become a representative of the benefits of our country’s economy, and the holder of our flag in important areas that make up 82% of the world’s trade and the natural gas areas. Congratulations on your graduation.”

 

Following the speeches, the oath taking ceremony took place. Those graduating with honors received certificates and all graduates received their diplomas. The ceremony ended with the graduates throwing their caps into the air and later throwing each other into the sea.

 

In the graduation ceremonies held in ITU’s Ayazağa and Tuzla Campuses, 14 ITU – TRNC students received their diplomas. We wish our students all the best in their future.
