The STEAM Training (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) aimed towards creating an integrated learning experience by mixing engineering, science and technology together with art and social sciences has been completed..
8 Children aged between 9 and 13 attended the STEAM week which was held from the 1st July to the 5th 2019 at ITU –TRNC’s School of Foreign Languages building in the Famagusta Campuses.
In the trainings executed by Ozan ERBAK who is a part of the establishment of ITU’s Science Center and has 12 years of experience as an educator in Eğlen Bilim (Fun Science) and coordinated by Eda CAN DOĞANBAY, experiments were done in fun ways. The 5 day training where children were given the opportunity to make unbreakable egg designs, egg cars, marble racetracks, kinetic statues, suspension bridges, sailing boats, model aircrafts and lifts was completed with a science presentation.
Throughout the program, Eastern Mediterranean University’s Machine Engineering and Electrical Engineering departments were visited and the children got the chance to see electric cars, underwater robots and laboratories.
At the end of the program with the participation of the parents, ITU-TRNC Rector Prof. Dr. Ercan KAHYA presented the children with certificates of participations. Rector KAHYA talked about how this was the first time that ITU-TRNC had organized the first ever STEAM training in North Cyprus and mentioned that there will be more variety in the programs aimed towards children.
ITU North Cyprus Summer School will continue during the 8th and 12th July with a Robotics Coding Program.
