ITU-TRNC Education Research Campuses has had its 2015 - 2016 Academic Year Summer graduates. We have conducted a short interview with our Marine Engineering Department graduates, Soner ŞANLI and Ömer TÜRELİK, about their life before university, their ITU education experience and graduation.

 

Soner ŞANLI was born in Kayseri and completed his secondary education in İstanbul. Ömer TÜRELİK was born in Manisa and completed his secondary education there. After getting information from their teachers and listening to various suggestions of their friends and relatives, both decided to study Marine Engineering. Soner ŞANLI told us that he made several good friendships while he was studying in English Preparatory School in North Cyprus. He said, “During my education, I didn’t have a lot of difficulties but I realized that this department was not suitable for everyone.” Ömer TÜRELİK who shared his experiences with us said, “During my internship, I had the opportunity to discover some parts of India and it was a really nice experience.”

 

Soner ŞANLI completed his 6 months internship on a ship called M/T Patnos from a German Company Harren & Partner. Ömer TÜRELİK completed his internship on a 38.000 m3 LPG ship called NEGMAR. ŞANLI is now getting ready for the exams of Unlimited Engineer Officer license and TÜRELİK, on the other hand, is waiting for a response from a Maritime Company to start work.

 

Our graduates mentioned that students who would like to study Marine Engineering should get a lot of information from someone who has worked on a ship and recommended this department as it is a good option for those students who have not decided on what to study yet.
