International conference on “Future Scenarios for Northern Cyprus and Mediterranean Region” hosted by Girne American University took place on October 11th – 12th, 2018 at Kyrenia Dome Hotel.

 

The conference, which was held under the auspices of TRNC Ministry of National Education and Culture and the sponsorship of Turkish Embassy Development and Economic Cooperation Department, was organized by North Cyprus Mathematical Society, North Cyprus Quality Society and University of California under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Ufuk TANERİ.

 

ITU-TRNC Education Research Campuses Rector Prof. Dr. Ercan KAHYA attended the conference as a speaker. Among the topics discussed at the conference were the impact of higher education institutions in Northern Cyprus on shaping future of the island and the Mediterranean region; strategic plans of these institutions regarding future; and their contributions to the economy of the region. Weaknesses and strengths, opportunities and hardships of higher education in N. Cyprus were also among the issues discussed at the conference.

 

Conference has ended with the summary and evaluations of the presentations made by participants from ITU-TRNC, METU NCC, Girne American University, Bahçeşehir Cyprus University, Cyprus International University, Dokuz Eylül University, İzmir Technological University, Anakara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, University of California, University of Wisconsin and Hungary Central European University.
