Graduation Excitement at ITU North Cyprus

Istanbul Technical University Faculty of Maritime Graduation Ceremony was organized on July 1st, the same day as the traditional Maritime and Cabotage Day just like it had been in the previous years. The ceremony was held at ITU’s Tuzla Campus and 8 ITU North Cyprus students had the joy of graduating after successfully completing the 2017-2018 Academic Year.

ITU North Cyprus’s Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Serdar KUM gave the diplomas to the graduates at the ceremony where ITU Faculty of Maritime students and their families attended.

During his speech at the ceremony where 111 students graduated, Republic of Turkey Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affaires and Communications Undersecretary Suat Hayri AKA said that language is the most important thing in the field of maritime.

While mentioning that by pursuing their own career in the best way possible a person can improve themselves, he went on to say; “You should work by improving yourselves and the rest will come on its own. One thing that you certainly need to focus on is learning a language. The Maritime Sector is developing and advancing every day. There are a lot of different braches in the field of maritime commerce and there is a significant need for seamen who know the ship, and who have lived and worked in a ship.”

ITU Faculty of Maritime Dean Prof. Dr. Oğuz Salim SÖĞÜT said "I have no doubt that the work we are putting into ITU’s Maritime Faculty will gain momentum with your success.”

SÖĞÜT said "We are sending you on your way as qualified marines who possess high morals, are environmentally-conscious, have the makings of a leader and follow Atatürk’s principles and reforms of the Republic of Turkey. You have become individuals that can make analytical decisions by relying solely on knowledge and science. Just like a marine proverb says; “A ship is not a spine, body, deck and sails. These are what a ship requires. A ship is in actuality, freedom.” I wish all the best to all the marines that will sail away on this ship and hope they are blessed with liberal ideas, conscience and knowledge.”
